Aging
gracefully is not limited to an anti-aging elixir or reconstructive
plastic surgery. It begins with one’s diet. Despite all the
available vitamins, minerals and other supplements on the market,
there is no quick-fix for fending-off wrinkly skin, a slowing
body and other health maladies.
But there
are naturally simple ways to beat the aging process. It starts
with one’s regular diet. As we all know certain foods are better
for the body than others. Based on the opinions and findings
of nutrition experts, here are a few way to improve one’s diet
to stave off the aging process.
Add more
lean protein. A way to circumvent the muscle shrinkage or the
loss of the skin’s elasticity entails adding more protein to
one’s diet. It does not necessitate eating more red meat, or
even chicken. Other sources of foods represent lean protein
sources; such as: salmon, sardines, tuna, lake trout and soy
protein.
The various
fish protein alternatives serve two purposes in one. Since fish
is high in omega-3 fatty acids it is heart healthy. The components
of fish have been found to be good brain food. Obviously, the
lean protein is good for maintaining the muscles of the body.
Get more
calcium. Many clinical studies are identifying the importance
of calcium in women’s diet. Particularly, calcium promotes the
density of bones. As the body ages and after menopause, women
are more susceptible to fragile bones.
Due to
the fact that the body no longer produces estrogen, it becomes
quite imperative for women to include calcium or a supplement
to maintain the density of bones. Aside from milk, other sources
of calcium may be derived from soy milk, orange juice, and certain
fortified cereals.
